As part of the ÖzÜ AI Research Series, the Faculty of Architecture and Design hosted AI in Architecture and Design Series – Reimagine, bringing together leading voices from academia and industry to explore how artificial intelligence is reshaping the future of design. The event opened with remarks by Barış Tan and Aslıhan Ünlü, followed by a keynote by Serdal Korkut Avcı, setting the tone for a day of critical inquiry and forward-looking discussion at the intersection of architecture, design, and emerging technologies.
Bora Sezer chaired the first half of the conference and later contributed with his presentation, “Deepfakes as a Socially Constructed Technology.” His talk examined the rapidly evolving landscape of synthetic media, addressing both its creative potential and its ethical implications. Emphasizing the growing importance of critical literacy, Sezer highlighted how designers must navigate questions of authorship, trust, and responsibility in an era where reality itself can be convincingly simulated.
The discussion also underscored the close relationship between AI and Virtual Reality, as both technologies converge in the creation of immersive, AI-generated environments where perception, narrative, and experience can be dynamically constructed and manipulated. Moving beyond tools and techniques, the event ultimately reinforced a key message: the future of design will be shaped not only by technological innovation, but by how thoughtfully and responsibly these technologies are integrated into cultural and creative practices.
